Five world acupuncture experts will be using their years of clinical experience to give a series of lectures to Singapore TCM physicians on the latest techniques of ear, tongue, fire and acupoint buried acupuncture and grain moxibustion, in the hopes of raising the standards to TCM in Singapore.
Next Friday (the 22nd), the Singapore Chinese Physicians’ Association (SCPA) will be arranging for five world acupuncture experts to give a series of lectures to Singapore TCM physicians on five rare types of acupuncture. At the “Acupuncture Practical Technology” Symposium, the five world acupuncture experts from the World Acupuncture Federation have been invited to Singapore, and will be using their years of clinical experience to give a series of lectures to Singapore TCM physicians on the latest techniques of ear, tongue, fire and acupoint buried acupuncture and grain moxibustion, in the hopes of raising the standards to TCM in Singapore.
The SPCA chairman Dr Wong Chin Nai, when interviewed, said that this acupuncture symposium, with the World Acupuncture Federation as the host, the SCPA and Chung Hwa Acupuncture Research Institute as the organisers, is a rare learning opportunity for local TCM physicians, acupuncture researchers and acupuncturists. He said that the holistic approach of TCM acupuncture and the meridian theory, through the use of needles and moxibustion and other tools to pierce or smoke specific areas of the body, is able to regulate whole body balance and achieve health. These techniques have been passed down for thousands of years and are still in use today, and this is not a coincidence. He said, “There are 160 countries that use acupuncture as a form of therapy, and the World Health Organization (WHO) has been actively promoting acupuncture, and since 1997, it has confirmed that 43 kinds of human diseases can be treated effectively by acupuncture. Hence, to say that “Acupuncture is a form of placebo” is an ignorant and insulting statement.”
The five world acupuncture experts, include Nanjing TCM University expert in acupuncture and moxibustion, Professor Wang Lingling who will be lecturing on “The Clinical Characteristics and Uses of Grain Moxibustion”, Hong Kong Jockey Club Research Center of Tongue Acupuncture expert Professor Sun Jieguang who will be lecturing on “The New Hope of Mankind’s Health–Tongue Acupuncture”, Hebei University ear acupuncture expert Professor Jia Chunsheng who will be lecturing on “”A randomized controlled trial: The use of auricular acupuncture at points along the skin in the treatment of a variety of pain and health dysfunctions”, People’s Liberation Army General Hospital acupoint expert Professor Shi Xian who will be lecturing on “Clinical applications of acupoint buried thread techniques” and He Shi San Tong Research Institute Dean and fire acupuncture expert Chairman He Lin who will be lecturing on “Clinical applications of fire acupuncture techniques”.
The Dean of the Chung Hwa Acupuncture Research Institute, a subsidiary of the SCPA, Dr Guo Zhong Fu pointed out, these five experts are the top specialists in their field of acupuncture and their clinical research and techniques are an unmissable learning opportunity for any TCM physician or acupuncturist who wishes to improve their acupuncture skills. He said, “Taking tongue acupuncture as an example, even though there have been tongue acupoints since the start, but this technique remains rare, and Professor Sun’s years of research and clinical experience has brought it back into popularity and also increased the TCM world’s knowledge and understanding of tongue acupuncture in the treatment of cardiovascular and neurological diseases. Professor Sun is also the founder of the Sun Method of Tongue Acupuncture, a very good learning example for all TCM physicians and acupuncturists.
Dr Guo Zhong Fu is also a practising acupuncturist, and a member of the “Acupuncture Practical Technology” committee. He says, what is commonly known as acupuncture is in fact a combination of needle therapy and the use of heated moxa leaves that have been rolled into balls and lit, and then placed on acupoints, to relief neurological problems. And acupuncture is not only puncturing the skin with needles, for example, fire acupuncture involves heated steel needles that are brushed on the skin to produce a warm sensation and stimulation, and treat conditions such as pain syndrome, arthritis, trauma and external injuries. In recent years, the Chung Hwa Acupuncture Research Institute has organised several acupuncture symposiums. In May 2009, the Chung Hwa Acupuncture Research Institute and Toa Payoh Community Club Management Committee Liaison Office organised three public forums titled “Taiwan Acupuncture Experts Seminar”. In Taiwan in December 2009, in association with the China Acupuncture Federation, the Taiwan Chung Hwa Acupuncture Association organised the “First Asian Acupuncture Forum”. At the voting results of the same year, the SCPA representative Dr Liu Jia Yang was choses as the Vice Chairman of the Asian Executive Committee of the Seventh Committee of the World Acupuncture Federation.
The SCPA Secretary-General Dr Coral Teng also pointed out, the SCPA-organised “Acupuncture Practical Technology” has not only been warmly received locally, but attendees have also come from Malaysia, Indonesia and Taiwan and up until yesterday, a total of 300 people have signed up for the event. The symposium will be held at the third floor Grand Hall of the Quality Hotel in Singapore, registration fees for member and organisations cost $100, and registration fees for other attendees cost $120. Dr Coral Teng said, “As there are limited seats in the Hall, and the event has been fully subscribed. In the spirit of promoting TCM, the SCPA has only charged a nominal registration fee to participants and the event is estimated to cost the SCPA $20,000. In spite of this, the SCPA will continue to do its utmost best in organising such events in the future in order to improve the members’ knowledge base.
The SCPA/Chung Hwa Acupuncture Research Institute and the “World Acupuncture Federation Magazine” society, with the approval of the World Acupuncture Federation, will be holding its first stop in the “Global Tour of Acupuncture” symposium at the third floor Grand Hall of the Quality Hotel in Singapore on 22nd April 2011 (Friday): “Acupuncture Practical Technology” Singapore symposium.
